The former athlete has dedicated half his life to competing in rural sports, achieving excellent results in the aizkora (Basque axe-chopping) modality and participating in numerous challenges. In recent years, he has also competed in pentathlon. Currently, he collaborates as an expert in rural sports for EITB, enjoying the opportunity to discuss these disciplines.
His entry into the world of sports began at the age of sixteen, when he was invited to join a stone-lifting team during the local festivities in Villabona. Initially, he trained to learn stone-lifting, and later the opportunity arose to practice aizkora. He developed a great passion for this sport, immersing himself completely, with significant family support.
“"For an aizkolari, it is very difficult to work in a team environment; everyone goes their own way. Being in a team, everything is more comfortable."
One of the most memorable days of his career was his first challenge against Jon Rekondo in the bullring of Tolosa, where thousands of people gathered. In terms of results, he highlighted the Gipuzkoa Txapela of 2012 and the Euskadi Runner-up title of 2016. He competed in a total of six challenges, winning four and losing two, emphasizing the team atmosphere generated during the preparation for these competitions.
He also participated in pentathlon in recent years, a modality that generated significant impact. Although he initially arrived with only fair preparation, he was better prepared for his second participation, achieving second place in both 2019 and 2021.
The opportunity to collaborate on television came to him in June, with the intention of launching new modalities. Initially, he approached it with great respect, but he has established a good relationship with Juanan Legorburu and feels comfortable. His goal is to speak with respect and objectivity, expressing both the positive and negative aspects.
