Cultural agent Joxepa Madariaga has emphasized the importance of Basque independence and the use of the Basque language. She believes that in an independent Basque Country, Euskera would be used in all aspects of daily life without linguistic stress. However, she notes that currently, they live under the influence of Spain and France, and the struggle for independence must continue.
Madariaga welcomes immigrants seeking peace but stresses the need to inform them about the situation of their oppressed homeland and their desire to live in Basque. She added that coexistence must be based on respect.
In this context, she reminded attendees about the Euskalzaleen Martxa (Basque Speakers' March), organized by the Council of Basque Culture (Euskalgintzaren Kontseilua), which will take place on June 13th in Iruñea (Pamplona). She called on citizens to demand the rights necessary to live in Basque. However, she highlighted that the true march is a daily one: Basque speakers must choose to live in Basque, learn, defend language rights, and prioritize Euskera in society and politics.
Madariaga also underscored the importance of organization within friend groups, social networks, schools, workplaces, and Basque cultural associations. She announced that a bus has been organized from Lazkao and expressed hope that it will not be the only bus filled by residents from the Goierri region.
