The Eguzki Ecologist Group reported a diesel spill on Monday in the Amezketa river, near the Larraitz neighborhood of Alegia.

According to the group, the smell of the spill was noticed in the Larraitz neighborhood, and the pollution was detected in the channel running from the Amezketa river to the Oria river. After municipal workers called the 112 emergency number, the Ertzaintza (Basque Police) arrived to investigate the incident.
Eguzki has pointed out that reports of spills increase during the summer, as some companies carry out "clean-ups," and with lower water flow, these spills become more noticeable.

Contaminating river or sea waters in any way is not normal at all. Therefore, they must be strongly denounced.

The environmentalists urge citizens to call the emergency number 112 if they witness a spill, so that the protocol can be activated and an inspector from the Water Agency can investigate the site.
They have also invited the public to contact them via email at eguzki.eguzki@gmail.com to follow up and, "if appropriate," to publicly denounce the issue.
In addition to the Alegia report, the ecologist group has highlighted another spill this same week in the Martutene neighborhood, in the Urumea river, near polygon 27.
