A fire broke out in the afternoon in the wooded area of Zaratamo, near Arkotxa. According to the Department of Security, firefighters from the Urioste and Iurreta parks responded and completely extinguished the fire around 7:50 PM. According to local residents, the fire was located on Mount Titigane, near the San Bixenti neighborhood in Zaratamo.
Meanwhile, the Arkotxa neighborhood in Zaratamo has been filled with color thanks to the 'Mila Koloredun Jaia' (Festival of a Thousand Colors) organized by Aztarnak Muralismoa. Artists from Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, Araba, and Navarra presented participatory murals, screen printing, and graffiti workshops for the enjoyment of the residents. This is the second edition of the event, following last year's success.
The Upo Mendi Pelota School has opened registration for the new academic year. Children aged five and above will have the opportunity to play Basque pelota and pala, with pelota sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays, and pala sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In the pelota arena, the duo formed by Oier Elorz from Zaratamo and Eñaut Lizeaga from Astigarraga will play a hand-pelota doubles match at the Galdakao festivals on September 12th at the Kurtz fronton. It will be an opportunity to see the Basque Selection players who will participate in the World Championship.
Furthermore, the Ertzaintza (Basque Police) arrested a 35-year-old individual in an abandoned factory in the Arkotxa neighborhood of Zaratamo after assaulting another person with a cutter. The victim, a 37-year-old man, sustained an abdominal wound, and the attacker, who was attempting to repeat the assault, was subdued by those present.
Separately, the Zaratamo festivals were celebrated from August 7th to 11th in the Elexalde neighborhood, featuring concerts, children's activities, a communal meal, and pelota matches.
