The Children's Council of Tolosa has presented its proposals to the municipal corporation for making the town safer, within the 'Haurren Hiria' project, addressing areas such as sports, mobility, and leisure.

In the plenary hall of the Tolosa Town Hall, the Children's Council has presented its proposals to the municipal corporation to enhance the town's safety. As part of the 'Haurren Hiria' project, 42 schoolchildren aged between 8 and 12 have participated, requesting improvements in areas like sports, mobility, leisure, environment, and culture.
In the sports sector, the children are requesting a covered fronton and more football and basketball fields. They have also asked for the possibility of using volleyball, rugby, and tennis courts for free, as well as an expansion of the Usabal sports center's climbing wall. They have also emphasized the importance of more outdoor spaces for sports in contact with nature.
Regarding mobility, they suggest improving cycle lanes to be continuous and providing covered spaces for bicycle parking, along with a rental service. Concerning leisure and culture, they are asking for more parks, covered areas suitable for all ages, and book exchange points, requesting that the municipal library also be open on weekends.
In terms of environment and animals, the youngest residents advocate for enhancing green areas and fishing spots along the Oria River, as well as more dog parks and better control of canine excrement. Finally, regarding the general condition of the town, they suggest improving traffic light functionality and street lighting, in addition to requesting more bins, public restrooms, and fountains.

Taking into account the perspective and ideas of children is fundamental for improving Tolosa.

The Children's Council is a citizen participation body in Tolosa, this year composed of 14 representatives aged between 8 and 12 from three local schools: Samaniego-Orixe, Laskorain, and Herrikide. The selection process sought parity in age, gender, place of residence, and origin to ensure a faithful representation of the town's childhood.
