The urban renewal works on Araba Avenue in Arrasate have officially begun. The project specifically targets the section from number 30 of Araba Avenue to the Takolo roundabout. Construcciones Artzamendi SA is the company responsible for carrying out these works, which are expected to be completed within a nine-month timeframe. The total budget for the project is 542,321.42 euros, including VAT.
A key objective of the project is the integration of a new cycle lane. This will involve creating a new stretch of approximately 300 meters, incorporated into the pedestrian platform on the sidewalk closest to the river. The urban layout will be reorganized to safely integrate the cycle lane, slightly reducing the width of the roadway while ensuring at least one lane remains open in each direction of traffic, as explained by the councilor for public works, Kepa Urteaga, during the presentation.
In addition to the cycle lane, various other improvements will be made. Parking areas and the pavement will be renovated. The small existing parking area on the pedestrian platform will be redesigned, lowering its level to match the roadway, so vehicles will need to park from the road. Furthermore, the asphalt surface will be renewed throughout the area, and the pavement of the sidewalk next to Fagor Elektronika will also be replaced to create a uniform aesthetic for both sidewalks.
The works will also serve to upgrade underground infrastructure, particularly the water supply, rainwater drainage, and public lighting systems. Sections affecting the electricity and gas supply networks will be renewed, and part of the overhead electrical network will be buried.
The commencement of these works will directly impact local traffic. Starting today, a significant traffic diversion will be implemented. During the construction period, one lane of the avenue will be closed intermittently and in sections. Consequently, traffic heading towards Arrasate will be diverted through 17 Emakume eta Azeri streets. This special diversion is anticipated to last for two months.
Mayor Maider Morras highlighted during the presentation that these works represent a step towards building a more sustainable Arrasate, prioritizing pedestrian mobility and clean transportation. Additionally, they will complete the unfinished urban renewal of Araba Avenue in the San Andres neighborhood, providing a cohesive conclusion to the entire street. The mayor added that this project is part of a comprehensive plan underway to revitalize and balance all the neighborhoods in the municipality.
