Following the arrest of Global Sumud Flotilla activists by the Israeli army, including one from Tolosa, members of the flotilla have reported torture. The six Basque individuals who arrived from Turkey to the Basque Country were met at Loiu Airport by the Ertzaintza, who allegedly charged at them, arresting two activists and two accompanying supporters.
To protest the events and show solidarity with the detainees, the Palestinarekin Elkartasuna platform organized a demonstration in Tolosa. At the event, Bingen Zupiria, the Basque Government's Security Councillor, lamented the «charges and situations» that occurred.
“"I am sorry for what happened yesterday, twice over. I deplore the events, the charges, and the situations experienced, especially since it had been agreed how that situation should be managed."
Zupiria stated that this is not «the way to resolve conflicts» and that the images cause him concern. However, he also criticized behaviors that were «pure provocation».
