Maruri-Jatabe's participatory budget process for 2027 has gathered a total of 138 citizen contributions, which have been analyzed by the municipal technical services. The results report details the proposals received, their technical assessment, and the conclusions from the deliberation session held on October 14th.
Following the technical analysis, seven projects have moved to the deliberation and prioritization phase, having met the established conditions regarding viability, municipal competencies, and sustainability. The proposals cover various aspects of municipal life, from improvements to public spaces to sports facilities and mobility services.
The projects entering this phase, along with their approximate costs as outlined in the report, include: improving urban furniture in the central park (installing a fountain and benches, with an estimated cost of 10,000 euros); moderating traffic in residential areas and enhancing road safety (approximately 30,000 euros); creating a leisure area for dogs (costing 30,000 euros); installing a calisthenics area or outdoor gym (around 30,000 euros); adding support bars to the children's pool to improve safety and accessibility (5,000 euros); installing public chargers for electric vehicles (approximately 15,000 euros per charger); and setting up book exchange huts (with an anticipated cost of 3,000 euros).
The deliberation session on October 14th, held at the municipal 'txoko' (community kitchen), aimed to establish the collective prioritization of projects based on criteria such as population reach, social inclusion, environmental improvement, health and well-being, speed of execution, territorial balance, and community cohesion. However, participants decided to present other municipal demands and needs instead of evaluating and scoring the seven initially planned projects. Consequently, a consensus-based ranking could not be established. The needs raised during the session will also be recorded for consideration in other areas of municipal planning and management.
As it was not possible to agree on priorities among citizens, the Maruri-Jatabe City Council will make the final decision regarding which projects will be executed with the 30,000 euros allocated to the 2027 Participatory Budgets. The selection will take into account the council's technical assessment, economic viability, municipal competencies, sustainability, territorial balance, and general interest, as well as the reach and collective benefit of the actions.
