The Santurtzi City Council, in collaboration with the group Txalapartaris de Santurtzi, will launch a new cultural initiative by installing a free-to-use txalaparta on Mount Serantes. This emblematic space will become a meeting point for Basque culture and tradition. The event will take place on Sunday, October 11, starting at 11:00 AM.
Drawing inspiration from the free txalaparta experience in Lekunberri (Navarra), this initiative will allow visitors to Serantes to learn and use this traditional instrument, thereby fostering citizen participation and bringing popular culture closer to the public.
The City Council has highlighted the special enthusiasm generated by this initiative, which brings together culture, tradition, and citizen participation. They expressed gratitude to the group Txalapartaris de Santurtzi for "their enthusiasm, commitment, and all the work done to make this project possible," stated the mayor, Itziar Carrocera.
Mayor Carrocera emphasized that "bringing this tradition to Serantes not only brings it closer to Santurtzi but also gives it a new space to remain alive and be transmitted between generations." The txalaparta is not just a musical instrument; it is part of their cultural heritage, a tradition cared for and passed down through generations.
Nati Martín Alonso, from the group Txalapartaris de Santurtzi, highlighted at the press conference that the txalaparta is not just a musical instrument but also a cultural heritage that several families have preserved and transmitted over the years. "It will be very special for us to all be together that day, continuing this encounter, transmission, and collaboration that has been created around the txalaparta."
Martín Alonso added that "when we met with the City Council and explained our project, they showed interest from the beginning. The next step was to contact associations and collectives in the town, and we informed them all of our intention. It has been important for us that the project was not just an initiative of a core group, but that the participation and collaboration of different town agents were fostered."
The presentation and launch of this initiative will take place on October 11 on Mount Serantes. On this day, all citizens are invited to participate, discover this new cultural element, and enjoy the txalaparta in such a special environment.
