The Leioa City Council buried 1,700 tuppers containing memories and messages this morning as part of the 'Leioa has a treasure' initiative, celebrating the municipality's 500th anniversary.

Leioa experienced one of its most special moments in its 500th-anniversary celebration today. The initiative 'Leioa has a treasure', promoted by the City Council, saw families and residents deposit 1,700 tuppers filled with memories, messages, and experiences to be preserved underground for the next 25 years.
Throughout the morning, these containers, distributed weeks prior to involve Leioa's families in this collective effort, were buried. The day also featured a participatory radio where attendees could record their messages for future finders.
The celebration continues this afternoon starting at 8:00 PM in Plaza Errekalde, next to Kultur Leioa. The event 'Leioa Invisible' will feature Leioa Kantika Korala, Andoni Aresti Landa Dantza Eskola, La Fábrica, and various local associations. The event will symbolically involve 500 people, representing Leioa's 500 years of history.
As the plaza's capacity is limited, the City Council recommends arriving early. Following the show, at 9:00 PM, there will be a hot chocolate and musical entertainment in the Boulevard de Bidebarrieta, and from 11:00 PM, the Oxabi romeria will liven up the night in Ikea Barri.
