A 45-year-old woman has been arrested in Bilbao, accused of attempted homicide after setting fire to a storage unit where her partner was, causing him serious injuries.

The incident took place on Wednesday night, around 10:15 PM, in a storage unit located on the ground floor of a residential building at number 25 on Ollerias Altas street in Bilbao's Atxuri neighborhood. Firefighters and the Municipal Police had to rescue the man, who was trapped in the burning unit and received medical attention before being evacuated to Basurto Hospital, where he remains.
Patrols from the Bilbao Municipal Police, Ertzaintza agents, Firefighters, and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene. After the fire was extinguished and the unconscious victim was attended to, the officers present were able to confirm, through witness accounts, that a woman had thrown something inside through a gap in the door, which then ignited, causing the unit to catch fire. The storage unit had its access door closed and the blind partially lowered from the outside.
The woman, who had a small burn on the knuckles of one hand, was arrested nearby by Municipal Police agents as the alleged perpetrator of attempted homicide and transferred to Ertzaintza facilities, which are in charge of the investigation. The victim, 48 years old and of Spanish nationality, was evacuated to the resuscitation area of the Bilbao hospital, where he awaits his evolution. The alleged perpetrator of the homicide, 45 years old and of Spanish nationality, will be brought before a judge once police proceedings are completed.
