The PNV batzoki in the Cruces neighborhood of Barakaldo was found this Tuesday morning with graffiti containing "insults and threats against the Ertzaintza," which the Basque nationalist party considers "unacceptable." The party denounced that "certain political groups have decided to use" the Basque police "as the main instrument of their political strategy."
The graffiti emerged amidst the controversy sparked by the altercation between Ertzaintza officers and members of the Gaza flotilla at Loiu Airport, an incident for which the Minister of Security, Bingen Zupiria, is appearing today.
PNV officials directly pointed to groups that "permanently question the work of our police, and, at the same time, abdicate their security responsibilities in the municipalities where they govern." Without specifically naming any political party, the statement criticized those who encourage such actions, stating they "look the other way when certain groups insult, assault, or vandalize facades or urban furniture."
“"Quienes pretenden intimidar desde el odio no representan a la sociedad vasca."
The Barakaldo branch of the PNV issued a brief but forceful condemnation on social media, labeling these acts as "cowardly and fascist." They warned, "Those who seek to intimidate through hatred do not represent Basque society."
