The construction of the grand boulevard over the estuary between Erandio and Barakaldo has resulted in traffic closures, for both vehicles and pedestrians, on the bridge connecting Lutxana and Rontegi this weekend.

Circulation on the BI-711 road, which links Lutxana and the roundabout beneath the Rontegi bridge, has been interrupted since 7:30 AM on Saturday and will continue until 8:00 PM on Sunday. This measure is part of the second phase of the grand boulevard project over the estuary.
The reason for this closure is the execution of a complex technical operation, essential for advancing the transformation of this road axis. The work involves the unloading and placement of two prefabricated beams, each 46 meters long and weighing 85 tons, which will allow for the expansion of the bridge section over the Asua river. This expansion will enable the incorporation of a new continuous and safe space for pedestrians and cyclists, providing continuity to non-motorized routes along the old estuary road.

The temporary closure of the bridge will impact the usual connections between Deusto, Lutxana, Erandio, and the Txorierri corridor (BI-30).

To minimize disruptions, the Provincial Council recommends using alternative routes: for DeustoLutxana, the Enekuri road (BI-604); and for Erandio, the access to the University (BI-747) and the Lutxana-Asua road (BI-735).
The works on the bridge over the Asua river are part of the Estuary Boulevard project, an initiative that will connect pedestrian and cycling routes between Getxo and Bilbao along the BI-711, and will also link with the Left Bank via the new pedestrian bridge under construction between Erandio and Barakaldo. The future boulevard will feature a pedestrian promenade near the estuary, a two-way cycle path, and regularized sidewalks alongside the facades, while maintaining vehicle traffic at reduced speeds.
