Driven by the local club Sestao Fútbol Sala, and supported by the Haszten association and the City Council, this initiative aims to address a need identified by families and entities involved in adapted sports.
«This project excites us greatly because we believe this population sector is somewhat neglected due to the limited sports and leisure offerings available to them,» explained Gorka Iglesias, a club member. The idea originated two years ago during the charity tournament organized by Sestao Fútbol Sala at Christmas. «That's where we started talking with Haszten, we liked the proposal, and we are ready to make it happen. In fact, some within the club are already training in adapted sports with the goal of becoming another team in our structure by September and starting to compete within two seasons.»
The project aims to promote sports participation and provide young people with a space to develop their autonomy, improve their physical and social capabilities, and feel like active members of a club and community. It also aspires to become a regional benchmark and participate in the existing adapted futsal league at the autonomous level.
To publicize this initiative, open training sessions will be held on June 5th and 12th for children and young people interested in trying the sport and joining the school. Registration is open until May 31st via the Sestao Fútbol Sala website (www.sestaofutbolsala.com) or by calling 634405934. «We have already started outreach and have four people registered, and we continue to receive calls,» the club enthusiastically reports.
Haszten highlights the «innovative model of sports inclusion» this initiative represents, «as it does not limit itself to creating a specific activity for young people with disabilities, but rather integrates adapted sports as part of the structure and identity of a conventional club».
The City Council emphasized that this school reinforces its commitment to inclusive sports through Sestao Kirolak. «Currently, the municipality already has adapted schools in swimming and Basque pelota, and this new initiative will expand the sports offerings for people with functional diversity,» stated Borja Ramón (EAJ), the Sports Councillor.
