A truck fire on the A-8 highway near Muskiz, heading towards Cantabria, has caused a closure of more than an hour and resulted in nine-kilometer traffic jams.

A truck breakdown and subsequent fire on the A-8 highway in Muskiz forced the closure of the road in the direction of Cantabria for over an hour. The incident, which led to the complete closure of all lanes, occurred around 15:40. One lane was reopened after 17:00. This situation caused traffic jams of at least nine kilometers, according to the Department of Security of the Basque Government.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames of the tanker truck. Due to this operation, traffic had to be halted on the highway for over an hour towards the neighboring region.
The high traffic density on the A-8 caused many drivers to divert to the national road, where caution is also advised, according to the same sources.
This incident occurred on a Friday afternoon, a time when thousands of drivers are heading to various towns in Cantabria for the weekend.
Prior to this incident, several traffic accidents had already complicated circulation on La Avanzada and the Txorierri corridor (BI-30). The resulting traffic jams reached six kilometers, although traffic is currently flowing smoothly.
The first accident occurred before the tunnels, near Leioa in the direction of Getxo, involving a car and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the Department of Security of the Basque Government.
On the same road, but a few meters ahead and in the same direction, three vehicles were involved in another incident. This happened around 14:00.
Almost simultaneously, another accident occurred between a car and a motorcycle, this time in the Txorierri corridor, heading towards Getxo. This incident occurred just before the junction leading to the Rontegi bridge, causing significant traffic jams on the BI-30 for just over an hour.
