Ertzaintza agents arrested a 23-year-old man in Bilbao's Old Town on Friday, accused of attempted homicide, following a stabbing incident on April 9.

The arrest follows an investigation initiated last Thursday night, when a 31-year-old man was seriously injured after receiving three stab wounds near a central bingo hall in the Vizcayan capital.
The events unfolded on April 9, shortly after 10:00 PM. According to the police report, two men began a heated argument inside the gambling establishment, which escalated into a physical confrontation. The dispute moved outside the premises, at which point the aggressor inflicted two stab wounds to the victim's back and a third, more serious one, to the abdomen.
When patrols arrived at the scene, alerted by citizen calls, the individuals involved were no longer there. However, officers located the victim lying on the ground nearby. The Ertzainas themselves provided initial aid, stemming the abdominal wound until the arrival of medical services, who managed to stabilize the injured man before his urgent transfer to Cruces Hospital.
At the crime scene, police recovered a blood-stained knife discarded next to a nearby container, presumably the weapon used in the attack. Thanks to a witness's testimony, the perpetrator was identified, initiating a search operation that concluded this Friday afternoon.
Around 7:20 PM, investigative agents located the suspect in the Old Town. At the time of his arrest, the young man was carrying a screwdriver and had bloodstains on his clothes. After the officers identified themselves, the man threw the tool to the ground and was taken to police facilities.
The detainee, who has previous police records, will be brought before a judge once the corresponding proceedings are completed. Meanwhile, the victim remains hospitalized at Cruces Hospital. According to the latest medical report, he is in stable condition and his life is not in danger.
