Ekaitz Mentxaka, the current mayor of Ugao-Miraballes, will be the PNV's candidate in the upcoming municipal elections, following a unanimous decision by the party's local assembly. Mentxaka has served as mayor since February 2013 and has led the party to victory in the elections of 2015, 2019, and 2023, consistently securing an absolute majority in the council.
The Basque nationalist party highlighted that during Mentxaka's tenure, several projects have been completed, including the opening of new swimming pools at the El Jaro sports center, the connection of the river area with the town center, the modernization of the Citizen Attention Service (SAC), and the renovation of the municipal gym, which has increased its user base from 125 to 300.
Looking ahead, the mayor indicated that a key objective will be the «definitive boost» for the cycle path connecting the town with Arrigorriaga. The works for this project, supported by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, are expected to commence next year.
“"My commitment is to continue working to improve the lives of the people of Ugao."
Mentxaka expressed his «gratitude» for the party's support and reiterated his commitment to continue working towards enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Ugao-Miraballes.
