The extension of the budget in Getxo Town Hall is complicating the daily management of the local government, forcing all investments and purchases to be voted on in plenary sessions.

The end of the collaboration between the municipal government and the main opposition party in Getxo Town Hall has created a situation that complicates governance in the third most populated municipality of Bizkaia. With the budget extended, the local executive is forced to submit every investment and purchase for approval by the plenary.
In normal operation, each decision would not need such detailed scrutiny, as all budget items would be included in the annual accounts, providing greater agility. However, the absence of an approved budget and the lack of intention to negotiate one, compel the government to juggle its projects to move them forward.

"It is an absolute incapacity, we are not even talking about approving a budget because that is a utopia, they manage poorly, they lose public money and on top of that they break the law."

Within this dynamic, the plenary approved a package of investments totaling 2.6 million euros this Thursday. In February, the governing team had already pushed through another 4 million euros for various actions. Projects that the opposition criticizes as being "dragged from last year".
These actions are varied, ranging from the purchase of a defibrillator to alarms for Getxo Kirolak, investments of 140,000 euros to promote nautical sports, ordinary repairs in Fadura worth 175,000 euros, as well as the replacement of luminaires, various studies, asphalt paving, and repairs to bike lanes, elevators, and ramps.

"We are working with an extended budget, but that does not mean we are not managing, we continue to work, we are not paralyzed, what bothers EH Bildu is having to take a stand, for you it would be easy to vote against."

The main opposition party, along with another group, abstained from the vote and has announced that if the situation continues, they will reject future credit modifications. "You cannot govern by simply reporting, I foresee a bad future for them, there will come a time when we will oppose," warned their spokesperson. Another councilor criticized that "it is neither here nor expected this legislature," asking the government to "please present at least one project."
