The internationally acclaimed tribute group Brothers in Band, a frequent visitor to the Basque Country, is returning to Bilbao this Saturday, April 13th, to perform a new tribute to their revered Dire Straits. The concert will take place at the Euskalduna Jauregia at 8:00 PM, with tickets starting from 33 euros. This event is part of a tour celebrating the fortieth anniversary of Brothers in Arms, Mark Knopfler's multi-platinum album.
The band has a very special relationship with Bilbao, as they explained to DEIA. Miguel Queixas, the band's drummer, noted that the group has a history of almost 20 years and has played in various venues in Bilbao, from the small Azkena to the Sala BBK, the Kafe Antzokia, the Bilbao Arena, La Casilla, and the Euskalduna Jauregia. During their last visit to the Euskalduna, they performed before approximately 1,500 people.
We have a very special relationship with Bilbao.
Brothers in Band will recreate the production and repertoire that the Sultans of Swing group performed on that historic tour 40 years ago. Already considered the largest international tribute show to Dire Straits, the Galician group has embarked on a tour that will cover much of Europe and South America, with concerts in over 11 countries. As always, their performances will be noted for their fidelity and meticulous detail. Italian Angelo Fumarola will handle lead vocals and guitar, embodying Mark Knopfler's role and capturing his distinctive style and emotional expressiveness.
In addition to Fumarola, Brothers in Band features a spectacular ensemble of musicians who perform Dire Straits' timeless repertoire with exceptional fidelity, creating an evocative and intense atmosphere. The concert at Euskalduna will revive the 40 years of Brothers in Arms, Knopfler's fourth studio album, released in 1985. This album transformed them into rock 'dinosaurs' and stadium-fillers, propelled by the famous music video for Money for Nothing and its distinction as one of the first albums recorded entirely digitally and available on CD.
“"They are identified with the first note, like Jimi Hendrix, Bach, Mendelson or Angus Young, even though their sound varied a lot."
Queixas emphasizes Dire Straits' “uniqueness” and “genius,” which made them one of a kind in music history. Fumarola, who took over as frontman for Brothers in Band more than five years ago, states that the 80s era is his favorite of Dire Straits, praising Knopfler's iconic tone and the warmth of the Making Movies album, considering Tunnel of Love to be their most beautiful song.
