The Aretxabaleta City Council has unveiled its first feminist creation grant, offering 5,000 euros to support artistic works by women creators in the municipality and promote equality and LGTBIAQ+ viewpoints.

This initiative, a collaboration between the culture and equality departments, aims to "infuse Aretxabaleta's artistic works with a perspective of equality and LGTBIAQ+." The council highlights that artistic disciplines serve as tools for raising awareness, questioning society, and driving social transformation, while also fostering identity and collective memory.
The grant is open to individuals aged sixteen and over (individually or in groups) or non-profit associations legally constituted and based in Aretxabaleta. Applicants can submit up to three projects with a feminist perspective, addressing themes such as gender equality awareness, feminism, sexual diversity, empowerment of women and LGTBIAQ+ individuals, feminist care economy, and the prevention and recognition of gender-based violence, or the recovery of historical memory.
Projects must be developed in Basque and can span various disciplines including theater, dance, audiovisual, literature, visual arts, music, or performance, provided they have not been previously realized. The grant amounts to 5,000 euros, with a 12-month execution period starting from the day after the resolution is published.
The jury will consider factors such as the incorporation of a feminist perspective throughout the project phases, an intersectional approach, technical quality, innovation, and the work's relevance to Aretxabaleta. A minimum score of 45 out of 90 points is required to be eligible for the grant.
Applications are now open and can be submitted electronically until June 19th via the City Council's electronic portal. Further information is available at berdintasuna@aretxabaleta.eus.
