This competition is part of Bilbao Zerbitzuak's cultural commitment to promote artistic creation and to value the pictorial expression and historical richness of the municipal cemetery, as explained by the health and consumer councilor.
The competition will start at 08:30 AM and conclude at 01:30 PM. During this period, participants must create an original work in situ, inspired by the Bilbao cemetery. The works should reflect funerary art in its broadest sense, paying special attention to monumental, artistic, landscape, and symbolic elements, as well as the sense of serenity and harmony that emanates from this space.
Those wishing to participate must register in advance, before 10:00 AM on June 12, by filling out the form available on the Bilbao Zerbitzuak website. On the day of the competition, they must also collect their accreditation in person, from 08:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at the cemetery offices.
Each participant may submit only one work, created outdoors during the competition. The pictorial technique will be free –oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, or mixed techniques–, but photographic or digital creations will be excluded. Likewise, the works must adhere to minimum dimensions and to the supports previously prepared and sealed by the organization. As in previous editions, the minimum size will be 80x60 cm, and for watercolor, 50x30 cm.
The creations will be delivered to the Cemetery Chapel from 01:30 PM to 02:00 PM, and from that moment, a jury composed of professionals from the cultural and artistic fields will select the winning works. The verdict will be announced on the same day, from 02:30 PM onwards.
The competition will award three prizes among the best works: a first prize of 1,000 euros, a second prize of 500 euros, and a third prize of 300 euros. Additionally, the jury may award an honorable mention of 250 euros if deemed appropriate. The awarded artworks will become part of the Bilbao Zerbitzuak art collection, contributing to enriching the artistic heritage linked to this space.
