The Bilbao Municipal Cemetery will once again transform into an open canvas on June 13 with the celebration of the fifth edition of the Open-Air Quick Painting Competition. This initiative, organized by Bilbao Zerbitzuak, aims to establish itself as an event that intertwines artistic creation with respect for memory and the enhancement of the city's historical heritage. According to the Councilor for Health and Consumer Affairs, the primary objective is to foster pictorial expression and highlight the rich landscape and monumental value of this unique space.
The artistic day will begin at 08:30 and extend until 13:30, during which participants must complete their works entirely on site. Artists have complete freedom regarding technique, being able to use oil, acrylic, or mixed media, although digital or photographic proposals are strictly excluded. Creations must reflect the calm atmosphere of the cemetery, paying special attention to its symbolic and artistic elements on supports with minimum dimensions of 80x60 cm, or 50x30 cm in the specific case of watercolors.
To participate, it is necessary to register online through the Bilbao Zerbitzuak website before June 12. Additionally, painters must attend the cemetery offices in person on the day of the competition, between 08:30 and 10:30, to confirm their participation and have their supports sealed. The submission of final works will take place in the Cemetery Chapel between 13:30 and 14:00, just before the jury begins its deliberations.
The competition offers significant financial awards to recognize the talent of the attendees, with a first prize of 1,000 euros, a second of 500 euros, and a third of 300 euros. The final verdict will be announced on the same day from 14:30 onwards. It is important to note that the awarded pieces will be integrated into the art collection of Bilbao Zerbitzuak, thus contributing to expanding the cultural heritage linked to this historic enclave.
