Pirotecnia Valecea, an Alava-based company celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, will provide the grand finale for the Semana Grande in San Sebastián on Saturday, August 15th, with a spectacular pyromusical display. The company will blend light, gunpowder, and a carefully selected musical repertoire to conclude the festivities in Donostia.
Details of this event, one of the most popular summer gatherings in the Basque Country, were officially announced on Friday, June 26th. The festival, scheduled from August 8th to 15th, is expected to draw thousands of attendees nightly around the Bay of La Concha. However, the highlight for the Alava region will occur on the final night of the festival at 10:45 PM, when the skies of Donostia will be illuminated by the expertise of the Berantevilla firm.
Founded in 1876, Pirotecnia Valecea is one of the oldest family-run businesses in the sector and remains the sole manufacturer of fireworks still operating in the Basque Country. From its facilities in Berantevilla, the company has successfully combined the artisanal tradition passed down through generations with cutting-edge technological innovation.
This long-standing history makes their participation in the Donostia event a fitting tribute to a century and a half of dedication and business excellence in Álava. The closing pyromusical spectacle will acknowledge their close ties and historical contribution to traditional Basque festivities.
For this significant occasion, the Alava-based company has designed a pyromusical show that will trace its extensive career through a highly diverse soundtrack. The musical selection will feature classical and popular pieces, including Georges Bizet's renowned Toreador March from the opera Carmen, Jacques Offenbach's vibrant Can Can, and jazz and swing classics like Sing, Sing, Sing. Rock music will be represented by Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock, alongside Basque music with popular compositions such as Egan's Behin Batean Loiolan and Neomak's Ilargi Berriak, concluding with the epic Ocean Princess by Thomas Bergersen.
Valecea's display will be the only pyromusical event of the competition, following launches by other prestigious international firms competing throughout the week. From August 8th to 14th, audiences in Donostia can enjoy fireworks from Pirotecnia Alpujarreña (Granada), Xena Pyrotechnics (Netherlands), Pirotecnia Tamarit (Valencia), Phoenix Fireworks (United Kingdom), Pirotecnia Valenciana (winner of the last three editions), Gianni Vaccalluzzo (Italy), and Pirotecnia Gironina (Valencia). The Alava proposal on Saturday, August 15th, promises an unforgettable finale to the 61st edition of the contest.
