Bilbao City Council has appointed Carlos Urgoiti as the new Finance Councillor, succeeding Marta Ajuria, to prepare for the final year of the mandate, leveraging his extensive experience as Budget Director.
Bilbao City Council is making preparations for the final year of its current term, and in this context, has appointed Carlos Urgoiti as the new Finance Councillor. Urgoiti replaces Marta Ajuria, who stepped down a month and a half ago to become the head of Elkarkidetza, the social welfare institution for Basque public administration employees.
Urgoiti brings over twenty years of experience as the Director of Budgets, providing him with a deep understanding of the financial sector. Municipal sources indicate that Urgoiti took over the department's responsibilities after Ajuria's departure, and his official appointment as councillor is expected in the plenary session next May. The PNV party also supports this designation, viewing it as a natural succession.
This Thursday, an extraordinary plenary session was held at Bilbao City Council, where Marta Ajuria's resignation as a PNV councillor was formalized. During the session, the mayor and spokespersons from political groups praised Ajuria's work, as she had led the Finance department since 2007. In her farewell, Ajuria expressed her wish for Bilbao to remain a city focused on its people and economic development.
