The Department of Health and Osakidetza have initiated the process to contract the project design and construction management for a new health center in Arrigorriaga. This key facility, intended to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the town, has an investment of 6.3 million euros. Construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2028.
The new center will replace the existing one located on Urgoiti Pasealekua, which lacks sufficient space for necessary new services. It currently serves as the main center for the Arrigorriaga Primary Care Unit, centralizing services like spirometries and administrative procedures for the Zaratamo-Arkotxa and Zaratamo-Elexalde clinics.
An expanded service portfolio necessitates a larger, more modern, and functional facility. The future building will be erected on a plot of 1,564 square meters of cadastral surface, situated on the same street, at the southern end of Teodosia Ortega park, close to the current center and easily accessible.
The new health center will feature spaces adapted for current and future healthcare activities, including a family medicine area (6 medical, 6 nursing, 4 MIR/EIR consultations, etc.), a maternal and child area (2 pediatrics, 2 nursing, 2 midwifery consultations), and a physiotherapy area (1 consultation).
The estimated investment totals 6,370,000 euros, covering construction, project design, management, licenses, and equipment. Construction is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2028, with operations anticipated to start in the first quarter of 2030.
The tender for the Arrigorriaga project coincides with the upcoming opening of the new clinic in Llodio, which will strengthen primary care for the OSI Barrualde‑Galdakao.
