Amidst the intense summer heat, the Arrigorriaga City Council has decided to temporarily halt the sale of daily tickets for its municipal swimming pools until Friday. Access to the outdoor bathing complex at the Artunduaga sports center will consequently be limited "exclusively to season ticket holders," based on "strict criteria for organization, safety, and resource optimization."
The Sports Department justifies this measure by citing the "high demand for the use of facilities" due to rising temperatures, which "could lead to saturation in common areas and affect the quality of service." This decision aims for a "better management" of capacity control, preventing the overcrowding and queues experienced on Monday.
However, this priority access for season ticket holders has ignited considerable debate and disagreement, particularly on social media. Some users have labeled the measure "shameful," questioning why taxpayers who are not season ticket holders are excluded and suggesting alternatives like extending pool hours or installing water features in town.
Conversely, some viewpoints support the municipal government's management, attributing the measure to individuals who "do not know how to behave" or "prevent others from accessing their town's pool." Incidents such as "barbecues, thefts, furniture breakage," and even "an assault on a lifeguard for reminding them of the rules" at the Arrigorriaga facilities have been cited as reasons for stricter enforcement.
Amidst these differing opinions, some "Solomonic" solutions have been proposed, such as "only allowing registered residents to enter." Furthermore, several residents have emphasized the municipality's long-standing need for "the new sports center they have been promising for years."
