A delegation from SURBISA, led by its president and councilor for Urban Regeneration, Jon Bilbao Urquijo, is currently in Copenhagen to learn about various rehabilitation and urban regeneration projects developed in the Danish capital.

The public company of the Bilbao City Council is participating in an institutional delegation organized by the Embassy of Denmark to discover innovative solutions in energy efficiency, district heating and cooling networks, and sustainable neighborhood development. The initiative, taking place from October 25 to 27, includes meetings with public institutions and specialized agents, as well as visits to urban regeneration projects.
This technical trip, organized and funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to showcase the Danish experience in developing sustainable, energy-efficient, and decarbonized cities to representatives from institutions in other parts of Europe.
The program combines technical presentations and meetings with public institutions, specialized organizations, and private agents linked to urban transformation and sustainability. Participating entities include the Danish Energy Agency, the Danish Board of District Heating, State of Green, and the City of Copenhagen, as well as architecture firms and technology companies.
During the sessions, the delegation has the opportunity to see firsthand various projects that illustrate Copenhagen's urban evolution and the incorporation of sustainability criteria in the planning, rehabilitation, and development of new residential areas. Notable visits include the neighborhoods of Nordhavn and Paper Island, examples of regeneration of former industrial sites, as well as Fælledby, a new urban development conceived with sustainability criteria.
The Bilbao City Council's participation in this delegation allows for the discovery of international experiences and technical solutions related to building rehabilitation, energy efficiency, and urban regeneration, which are strategic areas for advancing towards a more sustainable, accessible, and comfortable residential stock.
Through SURBISA, the municipal company responsible for promoting the rehabilitation of buildings, homes, and premises in Bilbao, the Urban Regeneration Area works to improve the conditions of the city's built heritage, promote energy efficiency and accessibility, and foster the comprehensive regeneration of neighborhoods.
