The Basque Government's Department of Health and Osakidetza have initiated the process for the comprehensive reform and expansion of the San Ignacio Health Center in Bilbao, aiming to modernize facilities and enhance care capacity.

The project involves a combination of renovating the existing center and constructing a new annex building. This new building will support healthcare services while renovation work is carried out on the current facilities. The number of medical and nursing consultations will increase, and new multipurpose rooms will be added for primary care research programs and public health activities.
Additionally, working and resting spaces for healthcare professionals will be improved, and specific areas will be provided for women's care, mental health, and physiotherapy. Once the new building is completed, the current health center will be adapted to meet the primary care needs of the area, optimizing patient flows and ensuring universal accessibility.
Osakidetza will tender the project's drafting before the end of summer, with construction expected to commence in late 2027. This initiative is one of 74 actions integrated into the Basque Government's Department of Health's new 2025-2032 Healthcare Infrastructure and Equipment Program, aligned with the Basque Health Pact to strengthen the Primary Care network.
A total investment of 1.6 billion euros will be made to strengthen the Euskadi Health System. This reform and expansion of the San Ignacio Health Center will improve healthcare, enhance user comfort, and provide professionals with a more functional and secure environment.
