Artists Fernando López, Paloma Calle, and Massimiliano Casu explained their creative processes today at La Fundición venue in Bilbao, during the annual meeting of the Contemporary Theatre and Dance Festival (BAD Bilbao). The festival runs until October 25 across various Bilbao stages, including La Fundición, Harrobia Eskena, Bilborock, Teatro Campos, and Dantzerti.
In this 28th edition, the artists discussed their projects' collaboration with city communities and associations. Fernando López presented "Las que tienen que servir", developed with members of the Otxarkoaga Community Theatre Association "Aullidos". Meanwhile, Paloma Calle and Massimiliano Casu detailed the creation of "Fiestas Invisibles", a live documentary in the form of a 'verbena' (street party), made in collaboration with collectives from Bilbao La Vieja.
Alicia Otxandategi, the festival's director, highlighted the fusion of disciplines and new scenic languages in these projects. The meeting, open to artists, sector professionals, and the public, facilitated an exchange of experiences.
"Las que tienen que servir" will be performed on Saturday, October 24, at 9:30 PM in the Sala Kupula of the Teatro Campos. This 60-minute piece, suitable for all audiences, brings together cleaning workers and housewives to re-examine their representation in art history through workshops and performances.
Furthermore, "Fiestas Invisibles" will premiere on Sunday, October 25, at 12:30 PM at Bilborock. This live documentary combines music and dance to celebrate aspects often ignored by society, reclaiming public space and asserting everyone's right to occupy streets equally.
BAD Bilbao, in its 28th edition, features 17 companies and runs until October 25. Tickets are available for 10 euros at the box office and on the festival's website.
