The Basauri Town Hall has launched the Euskara Award to recognize and highlight the work of institutions, associations, and individuals who have excelled in protecting, promoting, and spreading the use of the Basque language. The deadline for submitting proposals will be open from November 3rd to 20th.
Candidates eligible to receive the award must have been born in Basauri, reside there, or have their main activity in the municipality, and can be nominated in three categories: individuals, non-profit associations (sports or cultural groups and collectives), and entities (shops, hospitality establishments, schools, etc.). Individuals cannot nominate themselves.
Proposals can be submitted by any citizen registered in Basauri, any association or group registered in Basauri, or by the municipal euskaltegis and schools. A jury will evaluate the candidates based on their trajectory in favor of Euskara, the impact of this trajectory on citizens and social life, the promotion of Euskara use, its expansion into new areas, becoming a reference for the Basque community, and efforts to bring Euskara closer to people from diverse backgrounds.
The jury will present three candidates, and the winner will be decided among them. All this information will be announced at a public event on December 3rd, the "Euskararen Gala".
Proposals can be submitted online at sede.basauri.eus/eu/euskararen-aldeko-saria, or in person at the Town Hall's Citizen Attention Service (HAZ), located at Kareaga Goikoa 52.
