A new edition of the Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship, organized by the Gipuzkoa Basque Pelota Federation, will see six municipalities from the Goierri region participate. The competition will be divided into various modalities, with each town showcasing its strengths in its respective specialty.
In the hand pelota modality, Lazkao, Zaldibia, and Zegama will be the representatives. Notably, Ataun, which has fielded a team for many years, will not participate this year, nor will Beasain, which reached the semifinals last year.
In the leather paleta and short paleta category, Lazkao, Olaberria, and Ordizia will be competing. Meanwhile, in the rubber paleta competition, Zumarraga will be the sole representative from Goierri. However, there will be no tournament for cesta punta, as only two towns have registered.
The presentation draw for the championship will take place on April 21, a Tuesday, at 7:00 PM, at the Kirol Etxea in Donostia. Hand pelota and rubber paleta matches will commence on the first weekend of May, while leather paleta and short paleta matches will begin on the weekend of May 10. Rural Kutxa and the Aramendia confectionery will sponsor the event, as in previous editions.
