In several municipalities within Goierri, such as Beasain, Idiazabal, Lazkao, Legorreta, Ordizia, Segura, and Zegama, they joined on June 28th, the International Day of LGBTIQ+ Pride and Sexual Liberation. These municipalities have organized events and approved institutional declarations to advocate for diversity and rights.
Zegama celebrated the day in a festive atmosphere. At noon, in the town hall square, drawings made by students from Aitxuri Herri Eskola were displayed, and face painting was offered. After painting the school's stairs with rainbow colors, they took a group photo and finally had a snack, enlivened by the show of Yogurinha Borova. The town also took on a festive appearance, decorated with colorful flags previously distributed in windows and balconies of houses and farmhouses in recent days.
The Town Council of Idiazabal, once again, adorned the balcony of the town hall with the colors of the LGBTIQ+ collective and disseminated an institutional declaration among the citizens. In it, the path taken by the collective and the diversity of our society were recognized and made visible, as well as the defense of the rights achieved thanks to the efforts of many people and social movements. Likewise, the work still to be done was highlighted, especially regarding the realities of trans, intersex, lesbian, and bisexual individuals, and the importance of an intersectional perspective was emphasized when sexual orientation and gender identity intersect with other circumstances.
The Town Council of Segura also joined the event and disseminated an institutional declaration. In it, the commitment to sexual and gender diversity was reaffirmed, and the right of all people to live freely and without discrimination was proclaimed. Despite the progress made, the existing challenges and the presence of prejudices, stereotypes, and hate speech were pointed out. The council assumed the responsibility of developing measures that promote equality, respect, and inclusion, and stated that diversity is part of the town's richness.
In Legorreta, the opportunity to watch short films from the Zinegoak festival was offered, and a rainbow-colored flag was placed on the town hall balcony. The council approved a declaration denouncing the increase in data on LGTBI+phobic aggressions and the proliferation of pathologizing discourses. The declaration emphasized that it has never been more important to celebrate where we come from and to fight for a town free of LGTBI+phobia. Furthermore, the need to establish comprehensive public policies from institutions was highlighted, and the council made a clear commitment to implement comprehensive feminist public policies that take into account LGTBI+ individuals.
In Beasain, the Igartza palace was illuminated with rainbow colors. The town council approved a declaration that makes the diversity of the LGTBIQA+ collective visible and defends the rights achieved. The declaration stressed that despite progress, not all members of the collective experience the same conditions, and that the risk of discrimination manifests in the intersection of multiple factors. Likewise, in the face of discourses that question the rights acquired in recent years, it recalled the need for diverse and inclusive public spaces. The council condemned discrimination and hate crimes, and committed to protecting sexual diversity.
The balcony of the Ordizia town hall was also adorned with the rainbow flag, and the entire municipal corporation unanimously approved an Institutional Declaration. In it, the path taken by the LGTBIQA+ collective was recognized, and the desire to make the diversity of society visible was expressed. However, the declaration also called for a space for reflection, highlighting the tasks that still remain, especially regarding identities, bodies, and sexual orientations with less visibility. The importance of an intersectional perspective was emphasized, and vulnerable groups such as migrants in irregular administrative situations, people experiencing homelessness, or young LGTBIQA+ individuals with psychic diversity were mentioned. The council reiterated its commitment to building a more just, inclusive, and diverse society for all people.
In the Lazkao town hall, flags were also placed and an Institutional Declaration was approved. The declaration recognized the path taken by the LGTBIQ+ collective and expressed the desire to make the diversity of society visible. Likewise, the tasks that still remain and the different realities within the collective were highlighted, especially the situation of trans, intersex, lesbian, and bisexual individuals. The importance of an intersectional perspective was emphasized, and the needs of people in vulnerable situations were mentioned. The council reiterated its commitment to building a more just, inclusive, and diverse society for all people.
