The roof of a building at Labeaga 35 in Urretxu collapsed last night, prompting municipal technicians to assess its condition today to determine necessary actions and ensure public safety.

The roof of a building located at Labeaga 35 street in Urretxu collapsed last night, specifically in the uninhabited section facing the river. Fortunately, no personal injuries were reported, but the area has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
Municipal technicians, led by the city architect, will analyze the building's condition this morning. The objective is to determine if it is safe to access the property or if, conversely, demolition is required for safety reasons. The usability of several nearby garages will also be assessed.

"This type of procedure allows us to detect human heat sources, proving very effective for cases like yesterday's in Urretxu."

A spokesperson for the Gipuzkoa Fire Department
SOS Deiak received a call around 10:00 PM yesterday from a neighbor who heard a loud noise. Emergency services, including firefighters, Ertzaintza, and Osakidetza, were immediately activated. There was concern that someone might be inside, as the building had suffered a fire in 2021 caused by an individual burning wires inside. The mayor and the Municipal Police also attended the scene.
Firefighters from the Legazpi station conducted a visual and thermal inspection of the building from the exterior, using an aerial ladder and cameras, as the stability and safety conditions inside the property did not allow personal access. The technology used ruled out the presence of anyone inside. Firefighters removed debris that could affect the exterior and cordoned off the area for safety. The operation lasted approximately one hour.
