Ugao began its festivities today at noon with a crowded event celebrated under the sun. Members of the Bizi Muina association read the opening speech, followed by the launch of the txupinazo by the town's mayor, Ekaitz Mentxaka, from the town hall balcony before the gathered residents.
The celebrations will take place from September 6th to 14th, featuring an extensive program combining culture, music, gastronomy, and sports activities. This year, the opening speakers will be Joseba Urrutikoetxea and Arkaitz Santamaria, members of Bizi Muina, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about bone marrow donation, whose members have received transplants.
Furthermore, families from Ugao with relatives living with rare diseases will participate in the 'Bolari lap' at the end of the festivities. The celebrations also include significant novelties: this year, there will be no final firework display ('traca') to show solidarity with people with autism, and the 'Punto Morado' (Safe Point) will be relocated to the Gazteleku to offer assistance from a professional team.
The City Council will offer over 70 activities throughout the nine days, with a program designed for all ages. Highlights include street entertainment, plays, children's activities, the traditional 'indaba jana' (bean stew), tributes, gastronomic competitions, and concerts, among others. The groups participating in the Txosnagune (food and drink stalls area) have also organized their own program until September 14th.
A mobile office for renewing DNI and passports will also be available in Ugao on several dates: September 30th, October 29th, November 26th, and December 28th, in the mornings, at the Plaza del Pueblo. Prior registration will be required at the town hall or by calling 946 480 711.
Additionally, local artist Argiñe Ceballos will present her photographic project ‘Silver Panty’ at the traveling exhibition 2026 Ertibil Bizkaia. Her work will be on display at the Arizko Dorretxea in Basauri from November 6th to 29th.
