British cyclist Matthew Fletcher has won the first stage of the 32nd Gipuzkoa Classic in Goierri, prevailing in a sprint.

British cyclist Matthew Fletcher, from the Harrogate Nova Race Team, has won the first stage of the 32nd Gipuzkoa Classic, held in Goierri. The first sector, covering a route from Ormaiztegi to Ormaiztegi, saw Fletcher emerge victorious in a sprint. With one kilometer remaining, he caught the two cyclists ahead: German Julian Kadrispahic (Cannibal Victorious), who finished second, and Italian Pietro Solavaggione (Cannibal Victorious), who took third place.
The classic was contested today in Goierri, divided into two sectors. The first comprised the route between Ormaiztegi and Ormaiztegi, and the second was a time trial between Ormaiztegi and Gabiria. The second and final stage of the race will take place tomorrow in Egia, Donostia.
In the time trial, however, British rider Milo De La Mare of the CAMS Majaco team was the fastest to complete the course between Ormaiztegi and Gabiria, securing the win. Second place went to Dexter Townsend (Harrogate Nova Race Team), and third to Loek Hovers (Willebrord Wil Vooruit).
