Lazkao will host the Batala Mendi Lasterketa on June 27, an event combining sport and nature with the aim of promoting inclusion, equity, and respect.

The race will feature three modalities: a 30-kilometer mountain race, a 12-kilometer sprint, and a 12-kilometer walk for hikers. This variety allows for participation from individuals with different levels of preparation, enabling both experienced athletes and newcomers to join the event.
One of the primary objectives of the Batala Mendi Lasterketa is to foster inclusive participation. In this regard, the collaboration with Bakuntza, a leading association for people with functional diversity, is crucial to ensure the event is accessible and considers the diverse abilities of all participants, creating an environment where everyone can take part on equal terms.
The Lazkao City Council and the organizing entities have called upon citizens to participate in the event, either as runners, walkers, or by assisting with organizational tasks. According to the Council, the involvement of the local population is considered key for the successful development of the event.
The Batala Mendi Lasterketa is part of the Goierri Kopa Trail, a mountain race circuit that has experienced sustained growth in recent years, becoming a benchmark in the region. Since its creation in 2016, the league has progressively expanded its calendar, which in 2026 will include eleven events across various municipalities in Goierri. In 2025, the Goierri Kopa gathered 2,642 runners, marking a 12.4% increase from the previous year. Female participation has also seen significant growth, rising by 33.1% in just one year.
