Last Thursday, members of the Goazen Ordizia initiative set aside their usual routes and headed to Goierri Eskola. The purpose of this excursion was to break from the daily routine and experience something new, as well as to discover local spaces and connect directly with nature.
This initiative sees broad participation, including students from Oianguren, Jakintza, and Goierri schools, care students from the Red Cross and Goieki, volunteers from the Lagunkiro and Zuhaizti associations, users from Garagune, individuals from the San José residence and day center, and citizen volunteers. The Thursday outing saw 54 people directly participate, and including students, over 100 people gathered in total.
“"Such initiatives promote the activation, socialization, and prevention of loneliness among older people, while also providing an opportunity to strengthen intergenerational relationships."
Goazen Ordizia is an activity held every Thursday throughout the year, aiming to engage in physical exercise, share time together, and strengthen relationships in a pleasant and inclusive environment. The routes are of three types – long, medium, and short – adapted to the needs and abilities of the participants.
“"Beyond being an educational center, we want to go further: from Goierri Eskola, we aim to be a bridge between different generations."
Students studying care for people in situations of dependency have also positively evaluated the initiative, stating that the relationship with older people is very enriching for them and that their experiences are highly valuable for their learning. The Ordizia City Council's main challenge is to increase citizen participation in such initiatives, and it has invited all interested parties to gather in the square on Thursday mornings.
