Hegialde Gears Up for Cycling Fest Honoring Xabier Ortiz de Luzuriaga

The 21st edition expects over 200 participants, featuring paella, live music, and a mus tournament.

The Hegialde neighborhood in Legazpi is ready to host the 21st mountain bike march honoring Xabier Ortiz de Luzuriaga, attracting over 200 cyclists.

The Hegialde neighborhood of Legazpi has completed preparations for the 21st mountain bike march in memory of Xabier Ortiz de Luzuriaga. This, the twenty-first edition, will see 212 participants and promises a day of celebration in the area.
Cyclists can collect their race numbers from 08:00 onwards at the main street of Laubide. The 36-kilometer route, featuring a 1,300-meter elevation gain, will commence at 09:15. The first participants are expected to cross the finish line around 11:30, with the last ones potentially arriving after 14:00. All participants will receive snacks and drinks, along with a paella meal. Those not participating in the ride can also enjoy the paella by purchasing a ticket on-site.
Following the event, there will be a distribution of t-shirts and a raffle for prizes. Additionally, friends of the late Xabier Ortiz de Luzuriaga will perform live music around 13:00, adding to the festive atmosphere.
This mountain bike march serves as a prelude to the upcoming Hegialde festivities, scheduled for the following weekend, aiming to generate a vibrant atmosphere in the neighborhood.
In the afternoon, starting at 16:00, a mus tournament will take place at the Insausti bar. Later, from 17:00 to 22:00, the Prehegis disco party will be held at the Laubide restaurant, featuring DJ Woolen.
