Bernardo Alberro Anabitarte, a composer and musician born in Astigarraga, has passed away at the age of 99. While his birthplace was Astigarraga, he lived for many years in Ordizia and was the creator of the song 'Ordiziarrak gera', which has become the town's anthem.
At the age of 16, Alberro lost his sight due to a work accident, after which he began playing the accordion. Although he gradually regained his vision, music played a significant role in his life.
Throughout his musical career, he composed numerous songs and melodies. Among them, the song 'Ordiziarrak gera' is particularly noteworthy, highly cherished by the residents of Ordizia. During the pandemic, upon turning 93, he went out onto his balcony to sing this song to his neighbors.
The Ordizia City Council has on several occasions acknowledged Alberro's work for his contribution to making Ordizia known through music. In 2013, he launched the opening firework of the Santa Ana festivities from the town hall balcony, demonstrating his affection for the town.
