The Ertzaintza has investigated two individuals in Zumarraga, one for stealing a handbag from a woman and another for making purchases with the stolen bank cards, following incidents on Sunday.

The Ertzaintza has arrested an individual in Zumarraga, allegedly involved in the theft of a handbag from a woman in a hospitality establishment last Sunday. Additionally, proceedings have been initiated against a second individual for a crime of receiving stolen goods and fraud, after making charges in various shops with the bank cards the victim carried in the stolen bag.
According to the Department of Security, the theft occurred before eight in the morning on Sunday in the Gipuzkoan town. A complaint filed by a 48-year-old woman explained that the theft was carried out by distraction, and the bag contained, among other items, a wallet with personal documentation, two bank cards, a watch, and a music device.
It was later discovered that several purchases had been made with these cards in commercial establishments located in Zumarraga and Ormaiztegi. Investigations led to identifying the person involved in the illegitimate use of the stolen cards. Around noon, a 35-year-old man was intercepted on a street in Zumarraga. He was carrying the two cards stolen from the complainant and admitted to having used them in several shops, stating that an acquaintance had given them to him. For these reasons, he was investigated for a crime of receiving stolen goods and fraud.
Shortly after, the individual who had provided the cards to the investigated person and was the perpetrator of the handbag theft was located and arrested in a residence in Urretxu. The handbag and some of the stolen belongings were found in a plastic bag he had left next to a building in Ormaiztegi. The 28-year-old detainee was brought before the Court on Monday morning. Both the arrested and the investigated individual have criminal records, mainly for property crimes. The Ertzaintza has returned the handbag and recovered belongings to their rightful owner.
