This Thursday, May 30th, Lazkao celebrated Cuadrillas Day within the framework of the San Prudencio festivities. Although there were some rain showers in the morning, especially at dawn, the town began to come alive by midday, and the streets gradually filled with people.
At 12:00 PM, the Incansables txaranga kicked off the day's activities, and with the first notes, the cuadrillas began to gather, dressed in their traditional blouses, with the firm intention of warming up the town's atmosphere. As the 'poteo' (bar-hopping) began, the town's streets filled with color, as the different cuadrillas appeared and the festive atmosphere merged. Music and cheer predominated, and participation significantly increased from midday onwards, creating a pleasant and close-knit atmosphere.
In the afternoon, the festivities maintained a lively pace. The Txulakai boom boom! show, held in Lazkao Txiki square, generated great anticipation, especially with the participation of the younger audience. Afterwards, the Burrunba electrotxaranga once again energized the streets, combining electronic music with the classic txaranga format, and strengthening the movement and atmosphere among the cuadrillas.
As the day progressed, the streets continued to fill with people, and the festive atmosphere did not wane. The weather generally respected the people of Lazkao, with a warm day, and people took to the streets, keeping the celebration alive. In the evening, concerts by the groups Bengo and Mirua brought an end to the day's activities, but not to the festive spirit. The atmosphere will continue after these, and many locals will take the opportunity to enjoy the party with their lifelong friends.
Overall, the day once again highlighted the importance of the cuadrillas in Lazkao's festivities: friendship, street atmosphere, and participation have been the main protagonists, bringing life to the town and reinforcing the popular character of the celebration.
Furthermore, tomorrow, May 1st, the program will continue at 11:00 AM with the San Prudencio Swimming Award. At 12:00 PM, there will be a codfish competition and a rural sports exhibition, with the participation of aizkolaris (woodchoppers) and harri-jasotzaileak (stone lifters). In the afternoon, at 4:30 PM, there will be a toka championship and a parade by the Lazkao Music Band, followed by a loose dance championship and, at 7:30 PM, a concert by the band, thus bidding farewell to this year's San Prudencio festivities until next year.
