This coming Sunday, May 3rd, the 9th Segura-Zerain mountain race will take place. Although the organizers are monitoring the weather, all other preparations are complete. Following the positive feedback from last year's change, the races will again be held on Sunday morning, moving away from the Saturday afternoon schedule.
As usual, there will be two events to choose from: the Trail or long race, covering 25 kilometers, and the Sprint or short race, spanning 14.5 kilometers. The long race will start at 09:30 AM, with the short race runners departing half an hour later. Organizers have announced that the route will be identical to last year's.
“"To the extent possible, we have called on runners from Segura and nearby towns to collect their bibs on Saturday, to facilitate organizational tasks."
Registration closed on Monday, with a total of 280 people signing up for both events. This figure is slightly lower than last year's, and organizers believe the May Day long weekend may have played a role. 20% of participants are women, and the majority, 75%, are runners from Goierri or Gipuzkoa.
Bib collection will take place on Saturday afternoon (from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM) and Sunday morning (from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM). Organizers recommend collecting bibs on Saturday to streamline the process. This year, efforts have also been made to prepare a gift bag for the runners.
As in previous years, the largest group of participants from Segura, Zerain, and Mutiloa will receive an award, consisting of a dinner with the organization. Additionally, youth prizes will continue, aimed at young people between 15 and 17 years old, allowing them to participate in the short race with adult permission. A total of 31 prizes will be awarded, crafted under the label of an artisan residing in Segura.
The Segura-Zerain mountain race will once again be part of the Goierri Cup this year. Organizers have confirmed that the four leaders from the Leharrei mountain race in Gabiria will be present in Segura. Furthermore, as with other races in the Goierri Cup, 1 euro from each registration will be donated to the Gipuzkoa Cancer Association.
