Workers at the Zubieta incinerator carried out their first strike day in April on April 14, called by the LAB union, to demand improved working conditions and denounce the company's stance.

Called by the LAB union, employees of the Zubieta incinerator held a strike on April 14 to protest their situation. As part of this mobilization, they also gathered in Gipuzkoa plaza, in front of the headquarters of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.
Workers reported in February that the company had rejected their attempts to negotiate a specific collective agreement. Since then, they have carried out various mobilizations and work stoppages. The strike on April 14 was the first of this month, with another planned for April 21.

"After the company threatened the illegality of the strike, in March it issued a written warning to all workers who exercised their right to strike, approximately 40 warnings along with threats of sanctions. In the meeting after the strike, in addition to attempting to violate the legal right of workers to strike, the company indicated that it would not take any steps forward."

According to the LAB union, Ekobal, the company managing the Zubieta incinerator, has used “setbacks and threats.” The union has reminded that Ekobal is a subcontractor of Ekondakin, a company contracted by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council. Therefore, workers will gather in front of the Provincial Council to challenge the main responsible party in this subcontracting chain and demand solutions to improve their working conditions.
