Ordizia, a town in Goierri, is gearing up to host its Artzain Eguna this Wednesday, marking the first special market of the year, highlighted by a parade of over 1,500 sheep and the presentation of Idiazabal cheese.

One of the most anticipated moments of the day will take place at 11:00 AM, when a large flock of over 1,500 sheep will parade through the historic streets of the old town, recreating the ancient transhumance. This event annually draws a significant crowd.
Idiazabal cheese will also play a central role. At 11:15 AM, at the Town Hall, the first Idiazabal cheese of the season will be presented. Following this, Gorka Txapartegi, from the Alameda restaurant in Hondarribia, will perform the traditional cutting of this inaugural cheese.

Awards for Idiazabal's consistency and quality will also be presented. In the shepherd-producer category, the award goes to Eneko Goiburu from Segura, while in the cheese dairies category, the recognition will be for Quesos La Vasco Navarra from Olazti.

Additionally, gastronome and restaurateur José Ramón Agiriano will be honored in recognition of his career and his contribution to the dissemination and promotion of this emblematic product.
The day's activities will commence at 09:00 AM with an exhibition-competition of Latxa breed rams in Garagartza Square, featuring around twenty shepherds. Visitors can also see lambs from the ELE association and a sheep udder competition, with nearly 200 head of red-faced and black-faced sheep.
Throughout the morning, various traditional activities will take place, including live cuajada preparation, sheep milking, and shearing, both by machine and by hand. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Nikolas Lekuona Square will host children's games. Starting at 11:30 AM, Garagartza Square will be the setting for a tasting of Eusko Label suckling lamb roasted on a spit (burduntzi), with pintxos available for purchase to raise funds for ASPANOGI, the Association of Parents of Children with Cancer in Gipuzkoa.
