The town of Irun has inaugurated the Irugurutzeta interpretation center today, a new facility aimed at preserving and showcasing the mining and ironworking history of the Bidasoa region.

The Irugurutzeta interpretation center opened its doors this Friday with an institutional visit attended by representatives from the Basque Government, the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, and the Irun City Council, alongside local residents with ties to the area.
The opening ceremony, led by the Oiasso Museum, featured a dance performance by the Aukeran company. Officials emphasized that the rehabilitation project aims to highlight the industrial legacy of the territory, fostering sustainable tourism through Next Generation funding.
Local authorities noted that this site is essential for understanding the cultural evolution and identity of the Bidasoa region, which has been deeply shaped by generations of mining and ironwork.

"Today we recover a very important part of our history. There are places that, once discovered, are hard to believe have been waiting so long to be told."
