Members of the Anti-Incineration Movement have called for a new mobilization on Saturday, the 23rd, in front of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council headquarters in San Sebastian, to denounce the environmental damage caused by the Zubieta incinerator.

At a press conference held at the Town Hall of San Sebastian, members of the Anti-Incineration Movement have called on citizens to mobilize on Saturday, the 23rd, in front of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council headquarters at 13:00. The protest aims for the authorities of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council to hear the demands and for "the protest to be heard in San Sebastian, the supposed capital of Gipuzkoa".
The organizers have recalled that "San Sebastian is the municipality in Gipuzkoa that recycles the least, and the difference is growing". Consequently, "San Sebastian is the one that most feeds the polluting incinerator of Zubieta". Furthermore, they have brought to mind the warnings from international experts about the Zubieta incinerator, such as the accumulating poisons, dioxins, furans, heavy metals, and PFAS that are spreading through the surrounding land, air, and water.
In this context, they have once again asked the authorities of San Sebastian and Gipuzkoa to act responsibly, taking into account the experts' warnings. They have requested "proper waste management" and, specifically, "stop that criminal incinerator of Zubieta!".
The full statement from the Anti-Incineration Movement denounces San Sebastian as "the beautiful pearl of the Cantabrian coast, rotten inside, a city that generates garbage and wants to impress tourists". According to data from the association Donostia Bizirik, in 2025 only 41.6% of waste was collected separately, far below the average for Gipuzkoa (57%) and European targets (55%).
The statement released during the press conference indicates that the Zubieta incinerator continues to "burn waste day and night", and experts worldwide are warning about the accumulation of dangerous pollutants. The movement has urged the authorities of San Sebastian and Gipuzkoa to "not ignore the damage caused by the incinerator" and to organize proper waste management.
