Zestoa will have its senior citizens as protagonists next Saturday, the day it will celebrate Senior Citizens' Day. The event will kick off with a dawn performance by the Idiakaitz Txistulari Taldea (traditional Basque musicians) at 10:00 AM. Following a mass at 12:30 PM, at 1:15 PM, during a ceremony in the Foru square, tokens of appreciation will be presented to the town's oldest residents.
This year's honorees will be Primitiva Garate Urbieta and Iñaki Martín Iriondo. Additionally, the Zestoa City Council, as is tradition since 2014, will also honor citizens turning 85 years old. The event will be enlivened by the Idiakaitz Txistulari Taldea and the Itxaropena Dantza Taldea (traditional Basque dance group).
At midday, a lunch will be held at the Jubilatu Etxea (Senior Citizens' Center). In the afternoon, at 5:30 PM, a demonstration of rural sports will take place at the Frontoi Zaharra (Old Fronton court). Participants in stone lifting will include Irati Osinalde, Udane Ostolaza, and Jon Unanue “Goenatxo”; while in wood chopping, Ugaitz Mugerza and Arkaitz Etxebeste will compete. To conclude the day, there will be a traditional Basque dance performance (erromeria) by Izer eta Alabier at 7:00 PM.
