Last Saturday, the local medical clinic treated several minors and one adult suffering from diarrhea, fever, and general malaise. The doctor identified that they had all been in contact with the river water. Consequently, the 112 emergency number activated a public safety and health protocol, and the council issued a notice informing about the bathing prohibition.
None of the affected individuals have experienced severe symptoms or required hospitalization, and all have shown improvement. However, until the analysis results are known, the council is maintaining the ban on swimming in the Zadorra River as a precautionary measure.
These incidents occur almost every year around this time.
The council has stated that the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation will need to clarify whether there have been any discharges and if the Zadorra River's stretch in Arantzazu is contaminated. The mayor explained that similar incidents occur almost annually during this period, sometimes accompanied by foul odors, foam, or dead fish.
