The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council has agreed to modify the Mugi card discount system to encourage public transport usage. This new measure will directly affect train and bus users. As explained by the Council, the current three discount tiers will become four, depending on the user's monthly number of trips.
Compared to the current system, the changes will have a significant impact on users. Those making fewer than fifteen trips per month will receive a 71% discount, costing 66 cents per trip. A 78% discount will be applied to those making between sixteen and thirty trips.
The most frequent Mugi card users, those making over 51 trips per month, will receive the highest discount of 96%, with each trip costing eight cents. These measures are designed to promote public transport use and benefit regular users.
Additionally, the price of single-journey tickets will also increase. Previously costing 1.95 euros, tickets will now cost 2.25 euros, representing a 15% rise.
