Once again, the streets and various venues of Mañaria will be filled with culture thanks to the ‘Maiatza Kulturala’ initiative. Theater, concerts, lectures, shows, and a market will be among the activities enriching the town's cultural life. The main goal of this initiative is to promote culture among citizens, highlight artistic creation, and offer a varied leisure program for all ages. The schedule has been put together through the collaboration between the Mañaria City Council and various local associations and agents.
As part of the program, the Andra Mari dance group will celebrate its 40th anniversary on May 23rd. It will be a full day of celebration, with the participation of current dance groups (from the youngest to the oldest) and former dancers who have been part of the group over the years, including dancers over 80 years old. The day will begin with a parade, followed by a main dance performance in the fronton, featuring traditional dances such as ezpatadantza and gorulariak. Additionally, important figures in the group's creation and trajectory will be honored. To conclude the day, at 6:00 PM, the Lorratz group will offer a romería in the square.
Furthermore, on May 16th, as part of the Arri initiative, small-format artistic pieces will be showcased in different parts of the town. Korrala Sormen Gunea has been responsible for the organization. Spectators will need to complete a route to discover all the pieces, in an experience similar to a theatrical scavenger hunt. The roadmap will be distributed at 5:00 PM in the square, detailing the locations, times, and pieces, which will remain secret until then. Among the performances, there will be a piece combining fixed rope and clown, contemporary dance, a play, a piece created by students from Korrala Sormen Gunea, a comedic monologue, and a concert by the swingtronics group.
“"Spectators must complete a route to discover all the pieces, in an experience similar to a theatrical scavenger hunt."
Throughout the month, the program will be complemented by various cultural activities. On May 9th, the play ‘Arizona’ will propose a tragicomic reflection on borders, migration, and human relationships. On May 17th, there will be a concert by the Oreka TX group, and on May 22nd, the musical project Gar will offer a live performance in Errekondo. Finally, on May 24th, the XXX Euskal Azoka and the IX Euskadiko Azpi Gorri competition will take place, bringing this year's ‘Maiatza Kulturala’ to a close.
